LKS spotlights student and alumni members that are making a difference in their chapters, in their communities, and in the field of pharmacy.
Tell us about yourself:
I am currently in my second professional year at the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Currently, I work as an intern at CVS Pharmacy, bouncing back and forth between Buffalo and New York City. When I get a breather from pharmacy school, I enjoy watching video game playthroughs on YouTube, seeking out funky and hip restaurants, and mostly window shopping. Prior to pharmacy school, I completed my Bachelor’s in Biochemistry at Hunter College in New York City. In LKS, I serve as the Membership Coordinator for the 2018-2019 year, welcoming the newest wave of sisters into Alpha Theta Chapter. When I’m not engaged with my duties, I like to help our chapter with organizing get-togethers and finding fun new ways to spend time with my fellow sisters. This past summer, I attended my first LKS Convention which was co-hosted by Alpha Theta Chapter and Beta Alpha Chapter right here in Buffalo! I was able to meet many new faces and build long lasting memories. I hope to attend Convention again in 2019 to see you all there!
I joined LKS because:
On the second day of school, I happened upon Alpha Theta Chapter’s annual PB&J Drive where sisters and other pharmacy students come together to make and donate bagged lunches to a local homeless shelter. I was introduced to many individuals that were as excited to see me as I was to see them. Through this event, I was able to learn about the core values that LKS stood for. That is, our organization is built on strong leaders who are making an impact in their community and I was inspired to find out more. Through my time with LKS, I can fondly say that I have never met another group of individuals that I felt nothing but immense warmth and comfort in than my sisters of Alpha Theta Chapter. From the day I became a member, every moment has been memorable; it always felt like home whenever I was with my sisters. I genuinely believe that the relationships that I have built with Lambda Kappa Sigma will last beyond pharmacy school. I have found another family with my sisters in Alpha Theta Chapter.
My most memorable LKS experience:
Recruitment Week 2018 has been the most memorable experience thus far since being with LKS. Convention was still fresh in my mind and I had all these great ideas that I wanted to try out. It was certainly challenging organizing all our events and getting our name out there, but I kept telling myself that it will all be worth it in the end and without a doubt, it was. To see the faces of our new sisters and to see families grow, it was rewarding in its own way. It was truly an honor serving as the Membership Coordinator of the 2018-2019 year and I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything else in the world. I am thankful to my chapter for braving through it all with me.
Career plans:
Since my first year of pharmacy school, I’ve remained very open-minded about the many career opportunities arising in our field. As such, I find that my interests adapt as I learn more and more about each of the specialties in pharmacy. Previously, I wanted to pursue a career in ambulatory care and work closely with patients on managing chronic disease states. However, I have found a new interest in internal medicine because I like that it’s not just about one disease or one piece of the puzzle; rather, it’s about the bigger picture. It’s about optimizing all aspects of a patient’s health. I want a career that constantly keeps me on my feet in an environment that is fast paced and constantly changing. Somewhere in the grander scheme of things, I hope to go into academia and shape the next generation of pharmacists.
