Chapter: Alpha Nu Chapter (University of Kentucky, College of Pharmacy)
Tell us about yourself: (school, chapter, work, hobbies, LKS activities, meetings attended, career plans)
My name is Kennedy Powers and I am a PY3 at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. I am President of Alpha Nu Chapter of Lambda Kappa Sigma. I currently work as a Pharmacy Intern at Kroger Pharmacy, and I am well-known for trying to vaccinate anyone and everyone. When I am not studying, I like to sing and play guitar, play with my dog, and run my Etsy shop. After pharmacy school I plan to complete residency training and my primary interests are Critical Care, Internal Medicine, and Pulmonology. Eventually I hope to become adjunct faculty at an Academic Medical Center so that I can teach students like me how to become amazing practitioners!
Which of our core values (sisterhood, leadership, service, scholarship and integrity) do you feel you most strongly represent and how?
I feel that I most embody our core value of leadership. Over the last 3 years of being in LKS I have grown tremendously as a leader both in school and in my non-academic leadership positions. I don’t consider myself to be a great leader as much as I am a great influencer. I have learned to always push people to do their best and that a little encouragement goes a long way. My position as President of LKS has given me a unique opportunity to not only lead our chapter in a positive direction, but also to lead each person to become a better version of themselves.
What pharmacy or LKS related events are you looking forward to in this upcoming year?
I am most looking forward to finishing didactic coursework! The past 3 years have caused a lot of ups and downs and I am ready to learn how to practice pharmacy. My favorite chapter tradition is HOPE Gala. Every spring we host a formal dance to raise money for Project HOPE, and I love to have a weekend to relax and have fun with people from all of the healthcare colleges at the University.
Who do you see as your role model in LKS and why?
My biggest role model in LKS is our faculty advisor Dr. Stacy Taylor. She embodies so many leadership characteristics that I hope to possess someday. She is a faculty member at our college and seems to always go above and beyond to help students and increase her influence in the direction that our college is moving, and that is exactly the kind of leader I want to be in the future.
What makes you excited to be a ‘lamb for life?’
I am most excited to be a Lamb for Life because of the connections that LKS affords me. I love knowing that there are Lambs all over the US that I can call on if I need something, and that there are women actively empowering other women to be the best version of themselves and encouraging them to be the best pharmacist that they can be.
