2016 Distinguished Service Citation
I attended Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS). After joining Alpha Chapter in 1982, I became chapter chaplain and president. Upon graduation, I served as Region Supervisor.
At the American Society of Pharmacy Law (ASPL), I was director for four years and then president (the first and only non-lawyer to serve in the role). One time as president, I was awarding a full scholarship to another member for them to obtain their master’s degree. I thought to myself, “I should do this, too.” So I applied for the scholarship and won! Now I am one credit away from having a master’s in Patient Safety and Medication Risk Management.
Although I feel I am being a great role model for my high school kids by working on my master’s, I don’t have much free time between work and school. But I do like to start each day by going to the gym and attending a workout class. I also enjoy shopping for clothes…I love clothes! But my real passion is pharmacy, which is why I diversify my work in practice and stay active with LKS.
Most memorable LKS experience?
My most memorable experience was asking my now husband to an LKS Christmas dinner dance when I was collegiate chapter president. I didn’t have a date and didn’t want to go alone. He graciously accepted my invitation and the rest is history!
What advice would you give to fellow sisters?
Diversify and you will never be bored. Work hard and ask for help when needed.
Why are you a lamb for life?
I truly enjoy being with my fellow sisters, especially at convention, where we take time to learn together and to celebrate together. Attending local and national LKS meetings gives me opportunities to talk with other pharmacists and students to see what interests them and to hear how they practice pharmacy.
What job would you do if you weren’t a pharmacist?
I would be a detective. I excel in putting details together. I love unearthing the contributing factors that cause medication errors. So I think I would also enjoy putting together all the pieces of a murder mystery!
