Tell Us About Yourself (School, chapter, work, hobbies, LKS activities, meetings attended)
I was a member of the Alpha Mu Chapter at the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy where I received my BS in Pharmacy in 1980 and my MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1983. I was the Treasurer of the Chapter.
I received my PhD in Pharmaceutics from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1989. I subsequently held faculty and administrative positions at the University of Houston and University of Florida prior to returning to the University at Buffalo in 2000. I then had the honor to serve as the Advisor for the Alpha Theta Chapter at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences from 2000-2010. I also served as the Dean of the College of Pharmacy at the University of New England from 2010 -2017 when the Alpha Psi Chapter received their LKS charter. I am currently serving as the Dean of the Marshall University School of Pharmacy.
When not working, I enjoy reading (love historical fiction) and spending time with my husband Daniel (married over 39 years) and our two Labrador retrievers, Morgan a chocolate lab, and Mendel, a black lab. Daniel and I love to travel and have been to Tanzania, France, Peru, England, Germany, Austria and Egypt as well as many of the unique places across the US (one great things about traveling is what you learn about new cultures and about yourself). I am an avid College sports fan supporting a variety of teams from the University of Toledo, University at Buffalo, University of Florida and the Marshall University.
Most Memorable LKS Experience(s)
I have two experiences that stand out when I was an undergraduate. I can remember my LKS sisters working with my Father to build a raft for the University of Toledo Annual Raft Regatta along the Ottawa River. LKS won this Regatta for several consecutive years with this raft and I can remember it being stored in the College for many years between the races (this raft competed against many professional and social sororities and fraternities in the University each year). I can remember how proud Dean Billups was when we won this race. The second experience was attending a LKS meeting in Albany, New York and going to the Horse Races at Saratoga.
The Advice I would give to Others
I always remind students and those we work with that each day we should:
- Strive to work hard as any profession or passions requires hard work.
- Learn with passion each day both professionally and personally.
- Enjoy life with enthusiasm and be thankful for what you are given each day. There is also a great benefit of “Heads Up-Phone Down” so you can see what blessings you are given.
Why are You a Lamb for Life?
At the end of each day, the most important aspect is our interactions with each other, specifically how we can help others and the importance of asking for help from others when we need help. The only way we can do this is to develop loving, caring and professional/personal relationships which is one of the lessons I learned from being a member of LKS.
If I were not a pharmacist, I would….
Have loved to be a singer and dancer in musical theatre (if I had the talents). I am in the profession that I absolutely love and treasure, specifically being a pharmacy faculty member. This is the best career ever! You have the honor and privilege of helping others to achieve their goals.
