Meet Katherine Pinkey
Chapter: Alpha Mu Chapter (Univ. of Toledo)
Tell us about yourself: (school, chapter, work, hobbies, LKS activities, meetings attended)
I am a 4th year pharmacy student at Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Detroit, MI. I am a member of the Omicron chapter where I previously held the positions of Vice President and Vice President-Elect, with the primary role of leading our chapter in recruitment and new member development. I also developed and chaired the Sisterhood Committee to continue to improve and strengthen our recruitment program and member relations, and I am currently still a member of the sisterhood committee in my P4 year. I am an intern at Henry Ford Health System in their outpatient pharmacy locations and was given a great opportunity to help further develop and be a part of their growing MTM services program. I also love being a student at Detroit Receiving Hospital, where I am completing a longitudinal program for my P4 APPE rotations. Outside of school and work, I enjoy spending my free time reading, going to concerts, experimenting with new baking recipes, and working out.
Why Join LKS?
I joined LKS during my first year of pharmacy school because the sisters of LKS always made me feel welcome and offered an amazing support system. At every event I attended, I saw and admired the strong bond they had with each other. I had never joined Greek life prior, but I saw that LKS was made of a great group of women and offered endless opportunities for involvement in community service, leadership development, and mentorship. I am so grateful I joined LKS because it led me to meet so many amazing women that I am lucky to be able to call my lifelong friends, mentors, and sisters.
Most memorable LKS experience?
I have made so many wonderful memories as a member of LKS, including meeting my Big Sister, matching with my Little Sister, attending social events, celebrating Hygeia Day, and getting involved in community service. However, some of my favorite memories are celebrating our annual initiation ceremony at the Detroit Yacht Club, particularly the ceremony during my P3 year when I was Vice President. As Vice President I led recruitment, new member orientation, and initiation ceremony event planning. It was so exciting and rewarding to see the awesome women I had recruited and oriented officially become lambs for life!
Career plans?
After graduation, I hope to match as a resident so that I can pursue a career as an in-patient pharmacist and potentially specialize in critical care. I have a strong interest in critical care pharmacy, especially after experiencing several ICU rotations during my P4 year.
