Meet Lindsey MacQueen
Chapter: Alpha Mu Chapter (Univ. of Toledo)
About Lindsey
I am currently a 6th year pharmacy student at MCPHS University. I am on my 6th block with only one more to go. Thus far, my rotations have been challenging and I have been learning a lot from each preceptor that I work with. I have been enjoying my time off for Christmas by working at an Independent Pharmacy called Olden’s Pharmacy in South Weymouth, MA. I have been working there for 8 and ½ years. I love working with my colleagues and I enjoy talking to the customers that come into the store. Once I graduate, I am sad that I will have to leave, but I am hoping I can work at Olden’s part time if they need me.
I recently submitted all of my applications for residency and I am waiting to see if I get interviews at the different sites. My dream position is to be an ambulatory care pharmacist in an outpatient setting. I love working with patients who have diabetes and I want to be able to manage their medications and counsel them on what to eat to help maximize their success with their treatment. I love community pharmacy as well and I hope that I can work part time. I went to the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting back in December where I presented a poster called “Watch out for What’s Over The Counter!” It was an amazing experience and I met a lot of pharmacists at the residency showcase.
I am a fitness fanatic who works out daily and meal preps on Sundays. I love a good sweat session because it helps me get through my day. My favorite exercise would be boxing because it works your entire body and leaves you feeling sore the next day. I think if I was not going to be a pharmacist, I would be a personal trainer. I love to read. Elin Hilderbrand is one of my all time favorites because all of her books are about Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. These books help me distress and think about something other than rotation or work.
Why do you love LKS?
LKS is a huge part of my life. I met so many great girls throughout my journey at MCPHS University. I am happy to say these girls are my best friends. I orientated in 2014 technically and we finally got in in 2015. I have been Chapter Social and Corresponding Secretary. I love chapter meetings every Thursday because we all get to come together as a group and talk about what needs to be done. I love final banquet because we all get to dress up and see the alumni that come to visit. Founders Day is another favorite of mine because I love honoring tradition and hearing alumni speak. They all tell a different story about their careers, their hardships, and give us motivation to keep going and to never give up on our dreams. These ladies have been such great role models to me as I have gone through pharmacy school and I hope that I can one day give back and encourage future lambs to never stop believing in themselves. I joined LKS because I love the aspect of sisterhood. We are all so different but we come together and do great things. Everyone is supportive and there is always a listening ear. I loved Convention in St Louis. It is the only convention that I’ve been to, but it was awesome to have met girls from all over the country. I plan to go again as an alumni.
