Hi! My name is Melissa and I am in my fourth professional year at the University of Connecticut, which is about two hours from my hometown in Fishkill, New York (weird name for a town- I know!). I joined Alpha Beta chapter during the fall semester of my freshman year in 2012 and since then I have been thrilled to serve as our Social Committee Chair, Community Service Committee Chair, and Corresponding Secretary. I have also attended two annual conventions, one in St. Louis, MO in 2015, and one as our chapter’s delegate in Scranton, PA in 2016.
Outside of pharmacy school and LKS, I have a job interning at CVS pharmacy with a wonderful staff and a patient population that makes me excited to go to work each day. In addition to that I love doing anything outdoors including hiking, rock climbing, white water rafting, and enjoying the scenic views of Connecticut and the Hudson Valley in New York!
I joined LKS because
With UConn being such a large university, I knew I wanted to join an organization as a freshman that would help me form close relationships and support me throughout pharmacy school. I was truly inspired by the older sisters during the new member process and I was proud to join an organization that shared the same passion for pharmacy, leadership, and sisterhood. LKS has helped shape me into the woman I am today and I love giving back and mentoring younger sisters as they join our fraternity!
My most memorable LKS experience
I’ve had so many wonderful experiences in LKS that picking just one is difficult… If I have to pick, I would say that one of my best memories was being given the opportunity to present during the Lamb TaLKS presentation at the 2016 convention in Scranton. Through this presentation, and all other events at convention, I have been able to step outside my comfort zone and see just how diverse and welcoming our organization is at a national level and I look forward to attending more conventions as an alum!
Upon graduation (in just a few more months!) I plan to start my career in a setting that allows me to utilize my clinical knowledge and counseling skills to provide the best possible care to all patients!
