Tell Us About yourself
My name is Miranda Maitland, and I am a P4 student at Ferris State University. I am originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. I completed my undergraduate studies at Lake Superior State University. I have been a pharmacy assistant at Shoppers Drug Mart for the past four years. I am currently participating in a yearlong longitudinal APPE program at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan.
I joined LKS in the fall of 2015 when I first came to Ferris State University. This coming fall will be my 6th active semester! During my time in LKS, I have served as historian, jeweler, professional development chair, and on various committees. I currently serve on the national communications committee.
Outside of LKS I have been an active member and leader of many other pharmacy organizations including Phi Lambda Sigma, American Pharmacist Association, Michigan Pharmacist Association, American Society of Health System Pharmacists, Diversity and Pharmacy, and Ferris State Pharmacy Peer Mentor Program.
Why did you join LKS
I joined LKS as a way to meet new people. When I came to Ferris State University I only knew two people from my hometown that also chose to attend Ferris. The advice I was given from several of my mentors was to get involved and get to know your fellow classmates. At first, I was hesitant to joining Greek life. That quickly changed when I attended my first requirement event I was welcomed by so many girls who had the same drive and passion for pharmacy as I did.
Most memorable LKS experience
I have so many amazing memories from my time in LKS that I will cherish including initiations, sisterhoods, social events, and community service events. My favorite moments in LKS have been meeting my big sister and becoming a big sister. My big sister was one of the girls who encouraged me to join LKS and welcomed into the LKS family. She became one of my role models. Becoming a big sister and being able to mentor my little sister was also a very special moment for me.
What are your career plans
I plan on pursuing a PGY1 residency program. During my APPEs I hope to discover what field of pharmacy best suites my interests, and skills. My current interests are in a variety of fields including ambulatory care, emergency medicine, and academia. I have always been drawn to teaching, and I hope to become a preceptor or clinical faculty for a college of pharmacy.
