Meet Sylvia Ou
Chapter: Alpha Theta Chapter (State University of New York at Buffalo)
Tell us about yourself
My name is Sylvia, and I’m from New York City. I graduated from New York University with a Bachelor’s in Biochemistry and minors in Public Health and Chinese, and I’m currently a P3 student at the University at Buffalo and an intern at CVS Pharmacy. Ever since my initiation two years ago, I have always been an active member of the Service Committee and helped out with many other events as well, and I am now serving as the Vice President of Alpha Theta Chapter. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, listening to music, swimming, and playing billiards.
I joined LKS because…
When I talked to LKS members during orientation, they were so friendly and welcoming that I couldn’t refuse to come to the recruitment week events. From these events, I sensed a feeling of solidarity, and soon after, LKS took me under their wing and became like my second family. They have been always been so encouraging and supportive, and they continue to inspire me to become a better person and a leader. I also wanted to be more involved in community service projects, and our Service Committee provided many opportunities to give back to the community.
My most memorable LKS experience…
My most memorable LKS experience was Convention 2018. It was such an honor for us to serve as co-host chapter along with Beta Alpha Chapter, and it was honestly quite fun to help out behind-the-scenes while attending all the events and meetings. As it was my first Convention, it was just a great experience meeting sisters and alumni from other chapters and being inspired by the speakers and leaders of pharmacy there.
Career plans
My interest lies in ambulatory care pharmacy, as I wish to help patients manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and optimize their medication therapy. I love interacting with patients, and I find it so rewarding to develop long-term relationships with them and to observe improvement in their health over time.
